From Truro, Nova Scotia, The Orchids are a two-piece punk/desert rock band delivering unrelenting power and redefining the possibilities of a duo.
Formed in 2023 by Rhys Poirier (guitar/vocals) and Alexis Grant (drums), The Orchids burst onto the scene with ferocious live performances, unmistakable chemistry, and a “Volume Equals Better” ethos. Channeling raw energy and thunderous, fuzz-soaked riffs, this duo creates a sound that’s loud, primal, and far greater than the sum of its two members.
Despite their young age, The Orchids have already earned serious respect from fans and established musicians alike. Seasoned bands they’ve looked up to for years have praised their raw talent, taking them under their wings after witnessing their explosive live shows. Influenced by legendary acts like Kyuss, Dinosaur Jr., Mudhoney, Queens of the Stone Age, Eric’s Trip, Jucifer, and Black Flag, The Orchids channel these inspirations into a sound uniquely their own.
In February 2025, The Orchids will release their self-titled debut album through Here to Destroy Records. Recorded at The Drum Room Recordings in Three Fathom Harbour, Nova Scotia, and produced and mixed by Chad Peck of Kestrels, the album features nine original tracks alongside a reimagining of Elevator to Hell’s “Fifties Lady”. From pummeling riffs to unrelenting energy, this record captures the spirit of a band ready to break out of the underground. Branca Studio’s striking cover art completes the package, embodying the raw intensity of their sound.
In their first year alone, The Orchids played nearly 30 shows across Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, earning a reputation for their high-energy performances and immense sound. With 2025 on the horizon, the band is gearing up for an even bigger year, armed with new music, more shows, and a mission to prove that age is just a number when it comes to creating unforgettable music.
